So, we haven’t yet visited an area referred to as a “National Seashore” and been disappointed. Cape Hatteras is a 70-mile peninsula where we spent a few days in Frisco State Park, and enjoyed the area’s beach, biking, seafood and fishing villages. The solar system worked perfectly, with no user-errors this time. 😄

North Carolina Highway 12 runs most of the length of the peninsula. While it’s a bit of an exaggeration to call this a highway, there were times on my bike rides that the road was busier than I liked. I thought I’d take a few sideroads and ride in some quieter places. Every single time I left the highway, I rode less than 600 yards and ended up back on the seashore. So, think of this area as long and extremely skinny.
On the beach, we were a lonely pair of sunbathers. Fishing seems to be the more popular beach activity.

After a few relaxing days, we started our trek home. E gave me a heads up that we would be going over a “very long bridge”. Understatement. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel is 17.6 miles long, with not one, but two lengthy tunnels. While on this travel day, nothing flew off, or out of, the RV, there were shenanigans for us on this bridge, requiring E to (again), pull over on a non-existent shoulder, leave the truck, and make vehicle adjustments while traffic continued to fly by at high rates of speed. My checklist to run through before heading out on driving days has grown by several items on this trip. 😯
We’re home now, with lots of great memories and more than a few to laugh about. Another trip done, with planning already underway for the next one.
