E – A little Honky Tonkin’

Nashville lived up to the rather high expectations! It was a great third leg of the musically influenced part of our trip.

Our first experience was a walk down Broadway where the majority of the bars are. The first place we hit was, Layla’s Honky Tonk. The trio here were absolutely amazing!

After that we walked down Broadway and went into a couple other places….we hit Kid Rock’s place and they had a very good band there. Most places have two or three floors with a different band on each floor.

The next day we took a ride down the Cumberland River in a classic style river boat.

It was a beautiful day and we had lunch and a show on board.

Next up was the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Theatre. The Ryman theatre was the original Grand Ole Opry. The hall of Fame was great.

Charlie Pride was one of my Mom’s favourites!

One of the best live bands I have ever seen is Jason and the Scorchers…I love their music too…they could be considered CowPunk or alt country but clearly they have been influential as they were part of a display in the hall😊

Here is where all the plaques of the inductees are…its says “The Circle Be Unbroken”

After the hall we went over to Ryman Auditorium.

This place is a sought after venue to play by musicians of all genres and when you are inside you can imagine why…the ability to create an intimate setting with amazing acoustics has great appeal.

That night it was off to the Grand Ole Opry for a show hosted by Larry Gatlin and a backstage tour afterwards. The show was very good with a number of artists, including Conway Twitty’s gradson and Lorretta Lyn’s granddaughter, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, T, The Shenandoah band and Don Schlitz who wrote the Gambler and Forever and Ever Amen along with a ton of other stuff.

Our last event in Nashville was a tour of the Jack Daniel’s distillery in the town of Lynchburg. It was really quite interesting and very well done.

Complete with tasting!

Absolutely loved Nashville…we’ll be back!
