Well here we are…just finished the last trek home to end this great first trip.
Our last couple days in Cavendish the weather turned and it was really windy and cold. We got our last golf game in at Glen Eagles, really good Graham Cooke design but holy cow did the wind blow and it was chilly.
The winds were really high and gusty, you could feel the rig shimmy from time to time. I did a lot of googling to see what you should do with the slide outs in high winds. I actually had a couple ask how affected we were as they had to close the slide outs in theirs the previous night. We were a little protected and I decided to leave them out, in the end all was good.
I began monitoring the Confederation Bridge and they had closed it to certain types of traffic, like ours, for several hours twice over two days but by the time we were ready to leave Saturday morning it was back open.
The drive to Rivière du Loup was a long day…9 hours but weather was good. We ended up stopping a few more times than planned which extended the day. At one stop I discovered the cause of a sound that both Di and I puzzled over a couple hours earlier. I saw that the 5th wheel spare was hanging low and swinging just above the ground🤪. Not sure how or why but I got the crank and tightened it backup and we were on our way. We stayed a day in Rivière du Loup and then made the final uneventful 9 hour trek to the lake to drop off the 5th wheel.
Final thoughts
We learned a lot about living in this rig and the length of the trip was perfect for a first go. Here are some learnings in no particular order…
- Take into account holidays when planning driving days
- When driving in tight areas and you don’t know what’s ahead…send Di to look…winging it can can cause much angst
- The more you an learn about site location before arrival the better
- People are really friendly…you all have an instant connection as you share an adventurous spirit and you are out on the road. Most are very active..cycling, kayaking, hiking, golfing
- Shit will happen, just be prepared and accept it
- We like staying at least 5 nights in one spot
- Always start a driving day with a full tank..gives you more options for your first stop
- Gained an improved visual understanding of what to look for when first getting to a site
- Di did a phenomenal job in getting this rig prepared!
- We really do love this!

Our next trip is planned for April/May and current thought includes Hilton Head, Florida Keys, New Orleans, Memphis and others….for now…more research required.
Thanks for reading and all the support, much appreciated.
